Pray to know God better.
Imagine if the depth of your relationship with someone you love was limited to just knowing simple facts about them. It would be a pretty empty relationship! Can you really say you know somebody if all you’ve done is memorize things about them?
What if our prayer as a church in the New Year is to go beyond just knowing and discussing truths about Him but instead letting our relationship with Him be transformational in every sense. Growth in knowing God happens as we walk with Him, not just as we study Him. Obedience deepens understanding. Jesus echoed this: “If anyone chooses to do God’s will, he will find out…” (John 7:17). As we align our lives with God’s character and commands, we come to know His heart more clearly. We don’t obey because we fully know God; we know God more as we obey.
Prayer:
Father, may we allow our walk with you to change us in every way. Help us to know you beyond what we know about you, but to draw close and be changed by our walk with you. May we as a church together be known by our faith in action and the lives that have been changed by your Word. Amen.
