January 22 – Pray for discernment to best honor God as a church

Theme:

Pray for discernment to best honor God as a church

Devotional:

It seems I can easily find competing viewpoints on almost every topic imaginable. Turn on the news, visit a coffee shop, enter a conversation in the parking lot; people are very willing to share their perspective as to what is right and wrong on almost any topic. We live in a world of competing viewpoints and voices, and all too often what influences choices is the loudest voice rather than the wisest voice.

In Philippians 1:9-10, Paul prays that we grow in our ability to discern what is right rather than what is self-satisfying. He desires that we increase our understanding and wisdom by deepening our knowledge through the lens of a deep love for another and an unwavering focus on God’s will. When we ask God for wisdom, he helps us see clearly the choices that honor Him and that is how we stay on the right path.

Prayer:

Lord, help my love to keep growing stronger and wiser. Teach me to understand what really matters so I can make the best choices. Help me, as part of the church, live in a way that honors You and keeps my heart clean as I look forward to the day I see You. Amen.
